Diary of dreams is a German electronic-dark wave band which was founded in 1994 by Adrian Hates (former guitarist of Garden Of Delight).
He writes all the music and has produced most of the albums by himself or with minimal help from others. He rarely uses a full band, except when on tour.
Till today they have released 13 albums (included 2 EPs) First album “Cholymelan” (1994) where he enjoyed great success and gave a big boost to the group, which quickly gained fans!Pure Dark wave style, with “heavy” and melancholic deep vocals, sometimes slow-moving, sometimes more rhythmic compositions with synths drums & percussion that travel the darkest paths of fantasy and reality … Personally I discovered them a few years later, when they already had released their second studio album “The End Of Flowers” (1996), where he is considered album- station to the scene, along with the Freak Perfume (2002).
Encouraged by this success, Adrian Hates formed his own label called Accession Records Label and released a series of albums over the following years.
With the third album series “Bird Without Wings” (1997), put an end to the early dark wave style and experimentation comes to “Psychoma” (1998) .It is evident now more electronic style, which exists until today, while maintaining the excellent atmosphere that they have created from their beginning!
Somewhere here comes their first remarkable collection titled “Moments of Bloom” (1999). With the next “One of 18 Angels” (2000) “Freak Perfume” (2002) and Panic Manifesto EP (2002), are now commercially known in the world, since many contain “club” hits, the songs are more groovy with the entry of “beats” (for the first time) more intensely and dancing have to do with compositions that remain “unaltered-eternal”!
“Dream Collector” (2003) the second collection. Amazing concept album “Nigredo” (2004), inspired by mythology.
Smart setback of the early years in conjunction with the new modern style of the band along with amazing electric guitar passages.
The EP “Menschfeind” (2005), has players like no other CD in my stereo, and contains two of my favorite songs: “Haus Der Stille” and “Treibsand”. In late 2005 the band released his first Live CD “Alive” (Nigredo tour) and 2006 to first DVD entitled “Nine In Numbers”!
Upcoming releases: “Necrolog 43” (2007), “If” (2009), “Ego-X” (2011) where the listener perceives huge musical steps “forward,” the band! In 2012 released the “Anatomy of silence”, collection of their best songs, played with classical guitar, piano, keyboards, vocals, really amazing collection, another aspect of the band! “Elegies In Darkness” (2014) last album, another masterpiece!
It is certainly one of the best figures of the genre, serving until today and continue to surprise us with their releases. Amazing compositions and vocals, each disc is different and evolvable by precedent and always have something to tell us. The last 10 years have shown their love for our country as well visit us often for live performances, with each new release album.
Tips
~ I highly recommend two albums to listen for the beginning and at your discography: End Of Flowers (1996) & Freak Perfume (2002).
